강릉시립미술관 기획전시 《봄봄봄(Spring, Seeing and Looking)》 강릉시립미술관은 2024년 기획전시 《봄봄봄》을 개최합니다. 강릉 출신 또는 강릉에서 오랜 시간 활동한 지역 작가를 중심으로 한 수준 높은 현대미술 작품 향유 기회를 마련했습니다. 전 생애에 걸쳐 작품 활동을 꾸준히 해 온 조상현, 차영규, 최종림 작가가 전시에 참여합니다.(※ 작가명 가나다 순) 원로 지역 작가들의 원숙미 있고, 개성 있는, 다양한 시각 작품들을 전시에서 만나볼 수 있습니다. “조상현” 조상현(1952~) 작가는 강릉 출신으로 조상현극사실미술관을 설립하고, 한서대학교 교수 등을 역임했으며, 독일, 이탈리아, 국립현대미술관 등에서 전시했습니다. 부총리 겸 교육부 장관 표창장 및 대한민국미술대전 등에서 수상했고, 다수의 작품은 서산지방법원, 삼성, 홍익대학교, 미국, 독일, 이탈리아 등에 소장되어 있습니다. 작가는 지난 52년 동안 극사실 회화 작업을 하고 있으며, 극도로 현실화된 작품을 통해 복잡다단한 현시대를 살아가는 현대인을 위한 평안, 위안 같은 안락함을 작품에 담고 있습니다. “차영규” 차영규(1947~) 작가는 강릉원주대학교 예술체육대학 교수·학장 등을 역임했으며, 프랑스 파리, 독일 함부르크 등에서 다수 전시했습니다. 또한 황조근정훈장 수훈, 강원도 문화상, 미술세계상 본상 등을 수상했으며, 작품은 국립현대미술관, 가나한국대사관, 시카고 미술관 등에서 소장하고 있습니다. 작가는 한지 성형으로 가변형 캔버스를 만들어 채색 물감을 거듭 올려 생동하고, 정감 있는 분위기를 쌓고, 때로는 요철 부위를 불로 그을리는 등 한지의 주원료인 닥 원형의 성질을 극대화하는 작업을 하고 있습니다. “최종림” 최종림(1950~) 작가는 강원도전 초대·운영·심사위원 역임, 가톨릭관동대학교, 상지대학교 등에 출강했고, 일본 아시아 현대미술제 등 다수의 전시를 했습니다. 또한 동아미술제 동아미술상 수상, 대한민국미술대전 등 다수의 수상 경력이 있으며, 작품은 강릉아트센터, 삼척시 등에 소장되어 있습니다. 작가는 동적 요소를 캔버스 위 연필로 가득 채우고, 예측 불가능한 비정형의 기하학적 도형으로 작품을 구성합니다. 작가 특유의 검은색은 끝없이 사유하고 정제된 고민을 괄호 안에 넣어 검은 바다에 던지듯 현상계 너머 사유계를 표현하고자 합니다. 본 전시에서 소개되는 추상에서 극사실까지 아우르는 한지 성형 및 회화 작품을 바라보고, 거듭 들여다봄으로써, 동시대에 주목받는 현대미술 지역 작가들의 다양하고 풍부한 작품세계를 만나보시길 기대합니다. Gangneung Museum of Art Exhibition 《Spring, Seeing and Looking》 Gangneung Museum of Art is pleased to announce that “Spring, Seeing and Looking” will be held this year. The exhibition will provide an opportunity to enjoy exceptional contemporary artworks from artists who were born and raised in Gangneung or have been active in Gangneung for years. Prolific artists Sang Hyun Cho, Young Kyu Cha, and Chong Lim Choi will participate in the exhibition. Be sure to check out the exhibition where you will fall in awe with their original, unique, and diverse visual works. “Sang Hyun Cho” Sang Hyun Cho (1952~) is a native of Gangneung who founded the Cho Sang-hyun Hyperrealism Art Gallery and taught at Hanseo University as a professor. He has held exhibitions in Germany and Italy and at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul and many others. He has received a citation from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, and won awards at the Grand Art Exhibition of Korea. Many of his works are housed by the Seosan District Court, Samsung, and Hongik University and can also be found in the United States, Germany, and Italy. For the past 52 years, the artist has been working on hyperrealistic paintings, which captures a sense of peace and comfort for people living in the complex world of modern times. “Young Kyu Cha” Young Kyu Cha (1947~) has served as a professor and dean of the College of Arts and Sports at Wonju National University in Gangneung and has had a number of exhibitions in Paris, France and Hamburg, Germany. He has been honored with the Order of Service Merit (Yellow Strips), Gangwon-do Culture Award, and the Art World Prize, and his works are in the collections of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul, the Korean Embassy in Ghana, and the Art Institute of Chicago. The artist highlights the properties of paper mulberry, the primary raw material used to make traditional Korean paper, hanji, by transforming the paper into a variable canvas, applying layers of paint to emanate a lively, emotional mood, and sometimes burning the uneven areas with fire. “Chong Lim Choi” Chong Lim Choi (1950~) was the first chair, director, and jury member of the Gangwon-do Exhibition and taught at Catholic Kwandong University and Sangji University. His works have been on display at the Asia Contemporary Art Festival in Japan and others. He has also won numerous awards, including the Dong-A Art Prize at the Dong-A Art Festival and the Grand Art Exhibition of Korea, and his works are housed by Gangneung Art Center and Samcheok City. The artist fills the canvas with dynamic elements in pencil and fills his works with unpredictable, atypical geometric shapes. The characteristic black color is intended to depict the world of thought beyond the phenomenal world, as if he is endlessly thinking and throwing his refined thoughts into a black sea in parentheses.
